BPEL Resource Guide

BPELJ
BEA Systems and IBM published a jointly-authored whitepaper on a suggested BPEL extension named BPELJ. From the whitepaper, "This whitepaper proposes a combination of BPEL with Java, named BPELJ, that allows these two programming languages to be used together to build complete business process applications. By enabling BPEL and Java to work together, BPELJ allows each language to do what it does best." There is considerable controversy around this proposed approach.

BPEL and Java
This article discusses the role of BPEL and its relationship with Java, concentrating particularly on "the idea of extending BPEL, to be able to compose resources other than web services (for example EJBs, JMS, etc.) on one hand, and the possibility to mix BPEL and Java code on the other hand to open up some interesting new perspectives."

If BPELJ Why Not BPEL.NET
On the surface, [BPELJ] looks like a good idea... he problem is that the Java /.net divided rears its head again. One of the good things about BPEL4WS is that it is sits above these two environments and we are seeing implementations of it by Microsoft, IBM, BEA and others."

Why do I strongly support BPEL-J?
Here is my take on where I think BPEL-J fits. I don't expect anyone at BEA, IBM or Collaxa, or even actually in the BPEL community to agree with me." An interesting piece that frames where and how BPELJ may fit in the BPEL universe.

BPEL Java Extensions May Reduce BPEL Portability
If you code the BPELJ extensions, then your BPEL may not be portable to other BPM platforms. I'm not sure that this is the right answer to pulling in local, non web-serviced, resources into business processes."
